Wine Tasting Notes

The 2004 vintage will be remembered by one word: early. Warm, summer-like weather started in March and continued all through the spring, resulting in an early bud break and accelerating the entire growing season - from bloom to veraison to harvest. Late summer heat followed the warm spring, creating conditions that allowed for one of the earliest harvest periods in almost a decade, with picking beginning two to three weeks earlier than previous vintages.

Viticulture Notes

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were 100% hand harvested between September 14 and October 24, with the fruit lending itself to additional extraction due to its concentration and ripeness. Following an extractive fermentation, the wine lots underwent malolactic fermentation in tank.

Winemaking Notes

Our 2004 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon shows concentrated bright raspberry and black fruit flavors. This is a powerful wine that also shows the balance and refinement that is characteristic of Cabernet grapes grown on the Silverado Bench. The Reserve blend has the fruit intensity and structure to improve through years of aging, although its ripeness and approachability make it rewarding to enjoy now.
