Benchland Series Cabernet Franc
Our Bench Blend wines are crafted from select blocks on Napa Valley’s finest vineyards to display intense fruit flavors and layers of complexity. This dark, deep 2013 Benchland Series Cabernet Franc has aromas of bright blackberry and plum. On the palate, flavors of black cherry and cola weave together with hints of soft leather, tilled earth, and complex spices like nutmeg, black pepper and rosemary. A medium-bodied wine, the savory mouthfeel and finely-grained tannins of our Cabernet Franc has a fresh, clean and bright finish that lingers.
The grapes for this wine were handpicked and brought to the winery in half-ton bins. Fermentation occurred in small, open-top tanks. Throughout fermentation, the must remained in contact with the skins for up to 28 days. Afterward, we racked the wine to oak barrels for malolactic fermentation on lees, creating a rounder mouthfeel. In the spring of 2015, the blend was assembled and returned to a combination of new and used French oak barrels for flavor integration until bottling.
Nearly all of the grapes for this Benchland Series Cabernet Franc were selected from our estate vineyard in Napa. The Napa Valley AVA is renowned for its long growing season, and 2013 was an outstanding example of an ideal vintage. A dry, sunny and mild season paved the way for even ripening and excellent fruit maturity, and grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness and structure.
A reflection of the vision of winemaker Mark Williams, these small-lot wines are found exclusively at the Tasting Room and online.
